Rules Concerning the Public Records Requested Pursuant to the Colorado Open Records Act
Statement of Basis, Purpose, and Statutory Authority Pursuant to C.R.S. 24-72-203(1)(a)
Basis and Purpose
These rules are based on the Colorado Open Records Act, Sections 24-72-201 to 24-72-309, C.R.S., specifically the provisions providing protection of records in the custody of the Secretary of State and for the unnecessary interference with the regular discharge of the duties of the Secretary of State’s office.
It is the purpose of these rules is to describe the procedures governing requests for the inspection of public records in the custody of the Secretary of State, in order to ensure the protection of such records and the prevention of unnecessary interference with the regular discharge of the duties of the Colorado Secretary of State’s office.
Specific Statutory Authority
These rules are promulgated in accordance with the Colorado Administrative Procedures Act, C.R.S. 24-4-103, "Rule-making procedure," and pursuant to the specific rule-making authority granted to the Secretary of State as the custodian of records in C.R.S. 24-72-203(1)(a).
