Approval Voting Party Now a Minor Party in Colorado
Denver, October 2, 2019 – The latest monthly voter registration report shows the Approval Voting Party has 1,022 registered active and inactive affiliated voters in Colorado. Having over 1,000 registered voters qualifies the party for minor party status through at least the 2022 general election cycle.
Previously, the Approval Voting Party was a qualified political organization. As a minor party, the Approval Voting Party must hold an assembly at which it nominates candidates at least 73 days prior to the primary election. For next year’s election, the deadline is April 18, 2020. Following the assembly, the nominated candidates will be placed directly on the general election ballot. If multiple candidates are nominated for the same office at the assembly, the candidates for that office will appear on an Approval Voting Party primary ballot that will be mailed to all active voters affiliated with the Approval Voting Party.
The other minor parties in Colorado are American Constitution Party, Green Party of Colorado, the Libertarian Party of Colorado, and the Unity Party of Colorado. A full listing of political parties in Colorado is available here.
