New Campaign Finance Enforcement Law Goes into Effect Today
Denver, July 1, 2019 – The Campaign Finance Enforcement law (SB19-232) goes into effect today, July 1, 2019. This new law codifies and improves existing rules put in place in 2018 in response to a Federal District Court ruling in Holland v. Williams that found Colorado’s prior campaign finance enforcement system unconstitutional.
“Too often, Coloradans feel that their politicians are beholden to big-money special interests, and that the rich and powerful are allowed to side-step the rules,“ said Secretary of State Jena Griswold. “Coloradans deserve an enforcement system that holds those who don't follow the rules accountable.”
This new law, along with the Clean Campaign Act (HB 19-1318), will help Colorado fight dark money and make sure special interests play by the rules.
