Secretary of State Wayne Williams: Two more legislative candidates make the primary ballot

DENVER, April 12, 2016 -- Secretary of State Wayne Williams announced today that two Republicans, Cindy Barnard and James Smallwood, have successfully petitioned onto the ballot to run for the Colorado General Assembly.

Barnard, of Highlands Ranch, is running for House District 43 against the incumbent, Rep. Kevin Van Winkle, a fellow Republican. Her signature breakdown:

  • Required: 1,000
  • Turned in: 1,380
  • Rejected: 216
  • Accepted: 1,164

Smallwood, of Parker, is running for Senate District 4 for the seat now held by Majority Leader Mark Scheffel, who is term limited. Smallwood's signature breakdown:

  • Required: 1,000
  • Turned in: 2,008
  • Rejected: 801
  • Accepted: 1,207

The Secretary of State's office is still counting signatures for other candidates who turned in their petitions, including four Republican U.S. Senate hopefuls: Jack Graham, Jon Keyser, Robert Blaha and Ryan Frazier.

Barnard and Smallwood are the third and fourth candidates going through the signature process to make the ballot.
