Gessler deems Rivera candidate petition sufficient
Denver, July 30, 2013 – Today Secretary of State Scott Gessler announced that George Rivera collected enough valid signatures qualifying him for the September 10 recall election in Senate District 3 in Pueblo County.
On July 26, 2013, Rivera submitted 1,513 petition signatures to the Secretary of State. The office immediately initiated a line-by-line review of the signatures. Rivera needed to gather 1,000 signatures from eligible Republicans registered within the district. Following the review, Rivera collected a total of 1,462 valid signatures.
Under Colorado law, any eligible elector can file a protest with the district court within five days to challenge the validity of the petitions.
