Gessler announces successful voter registration campaign
More Coloradans registered to vote than ever before
Denver, October 10, 2012 - Colorado Secretary of State Scott Gessler today announced preliminary results of the voter registration campaign he initiated over the last month. From September 1 through the registration deadline on October 9, more than 79,000 people registered to vote. Colorado now has more registered voters than ever before.
"Our voter registration outreach and education campaign was a spectacular success," Secretary Gessler said. "We have more people registered to vote in Colorado than ever before - 400,000 more registered voters than four years ago, and growing. By implementing innovative technologies and reaching out to Coloradans who were not yet registered, we’ve increased voter registration to a new level."
Gessler held a press conference to highlight the successful effort the day after the voter registration deadline. The total number of registered voters should continue to rise tens of thousands of registrations and updates have yet to be processed with a flood of activity at the voter registration deadline.
