New minor political party petition deemed sufficient

"Americans Elect" qualify as new minor political party in Colorado

Denver, November 29, 2011 – Today, Secretary of State Scott Gessler announced that the petition submitted on behalf of proposed minor political party "Americans Elect" was found to be sufficient as required by statute. Petitions were originally submitted to the Secretary of State’s office on November 8.  The office immediately began verification of the signatures.  The results are as follows:

Total number of qualified signatures submitted   17,954
Total number of signatures rejected as invalid 5,763
Total number of signatures accepted as valid 12,191

After review of the submitted petition as provided in section 1-4-1302(4), C.R.S., Secretary of State Scott Gessler declared that a sufficient number of valid signatures has been submitted to qualify the new minor political party.

The Secretary of State’s office has notified the proponents the petition was deemed sufficient.

To be deemed sufficient under Colorado law, a petition to qualify as a minor political party must contain at least 10,000 valid signatures of registered Colorado electors.

The Secretary of State’s office will soon update the online voter registration and the state’s voter registration forms to include the new minor political party designation.
