Buescher accepting applications for elections advisory commission
Elections Best Practices and Vision Commission taking shape
Denver, May 22, 2009 – Today, Secretary of State Bernie Buescher adopted a departmental rule aimed at establishing the Elections Best Practices and Vision Commission. The next step is identifying commission members and Buescher is accepting applications.
“I’m really seeking applicants dedicated to identifying practical solutions aimed at establishing a long-term vision for Colorado’s elections,” Buescher said. “Though the official rule provides guidelines for commission members, I’m encouraging anyone interested to apply and offer to be a part of the team.”
Buescher’s commission calls for at least 11 members consisting of county, municipal and special district election administrators, political parties and other members of the public. The commission will meet as often as necessary to delve into election processes and practices.
“We’re looking for applications from all Colorado residents, including people who have run elections, run in an election or even voted in an election,” Buescher said. “I want this commission to be a sounding board and a vehicle to initiate efficiencies and research best practices.”
Anyone interested in serving a one-year term on the commission can send a letter applying for a spot. The letter just needs to include one’s credentials and interest in serving and can be faxed to (303) 869-4861 or e-mailed to sos.elections@sos.state.co.us. Applications are due Monday, June 15, 2009.
