Coffman Responds to the Governor’s Press Conference
Denver, January 23, 2008 – In response to Governor Ritter’s press conference, Secretary of State Mike Coffman released the following statement:
The clerks are the ones who administer elections and it is only fair that we defer to their judgment. Last week the Colorado County Clerks Association took the position for a mail ballot election for 2008 and I’m going to support the clerks in their request. Ultimately, the decision is up to the Governor and the Legislature. Whatever system, whether it’s a mail ballot election or paper ballots at the polls, I will work with the county clerks to make sure that we are prepared for it and that it’s the best election it can possibly be.
