Insufficient Number of Valid Signatures Submitted to Hold Recall Election in 14th Judicial District
Denver, April 9, 2007 – The Secretary of State’s office today announced that an insufficient number of valid signatures were submitted to hold a recall election of District Attorney Bonnie S. Roesink from the Fourteenth Judicial District.
Kathleen Oberwitte, a committee member of the proposed petition to recall District Attorney Roesink, submitted 69 petition sections to the Secretary of State’s office this morning containing 2,945 qualified signature lines. Each signature line may contain only one valid signature.
The committee was required to submit signatures “equal in number to twenty-five percent of the entire vote cast at the last preceding general election for all candidates for the office which the incumbent sought to be recalled occupies” (§1-12-104, C.R.S.).
Therefore, the total number of valid signatures that needed to be submitted for a recall election to proceed was 3,802.
