Secretary of State Gigi Dennis Reminds Professional Lobbyists of the Impacts of Amendment 41
Denver, January 3, 2007 – Today Secretary of State Gigi Dennis will be issuing an informal reminder to professional lobbyists registered with her office that Amendment 41 is now in effect and limits gifts given to state employees and elected officials by lobbyists.
Secretary Dennis will be informing all registered lobbyists they must comply with the regulations imposed by the constitutional amendment concerning giving of gifts, including meals, honoraria, travel, and entertainment.
“Because professional lobbyists register with this office and the session starts next week, I feel it is important to remind professional lobbyists to refer to the Amendment to ensure full compliance during the upcoming legislative session,” Dennis said.
While the Secretary of State’s office is not the government office overseeing the administration of Amendment 41, it is anticipated legislation will be adopted by the General Assembly to clarify and implement the measure. In addition, Amendment 41 provides for the establishment of a five member commission to provide advisory opinions, promulgate rules, and review complaints.
