Election Day Update - November 7, 3:45 pm

Denver CO, November 7, 2006 – Denver District Court Judge Sheila Rappaport ruled that the polls in Denver County will close at 7 p.m. State law provides that any voter in line by 7 p.m. may cast a ballot on Election Day and all polls statewide will close at 7 p.m. as required by law.

“I am pleased with the Judge’s ruling,” Secretary of State Gigi Dennis said. “The law concerning polling hours is very clear and it would be a disservice to treat voters across the state differently.”

Throughout the rest of the state only minor election issues are arising, as with any election, and they are being resolved quickly.

Voters should be prepared for an after-work surge at the polls. Secretary Dennis also reminds voters to take their identification with them.

The Secretary of State’s office will be working throughout the evening to provide advice and support to the County Clerks. Additional updates will be sent out as new information becomes available.
