Denver, December 5, 2005 - Secretary of State Gigi Dennis and Attorney General John Suthers will announce the results of Colorado's third Annual Report on Charitable Solicitations spending during two joint press conferences on Wednesday, December 7.
Denver Press Conference:
Wednesday, December 7 at 1:30 p.m.
1700 Broadway, Blue Spruce Conference Room
Colorado Springs Press Conference:
Wednesday, December 7 at 4:00 p.m.
200 South Cascade Avenue, Centennial Hall
"As many citizens begin donating to charitable organizations during the holiday season this report will be extremely beneficial for citizens to determine where they will wish to donate their money," Secretary of State Gigi Dennis said. "Additionally, the report that will be released on Wednesday will better inform citizens who may be hesitant and unsure as to where their money is going and how much actually gets spent on the cause to which they donate."
"During this holiday season, it is important for consumers to be aware of the Colorado Charitable Solicitations Act and the reporting system. This system provides consumers with important information about registered charitable organizations that solicit in Colorado," said Attorney General John Suthers.
The report provides citizens an overview of fundraising campaigns conducted by registered paid solicitors on behalf of charities and provides tips on wise giving, recent statistics on charities and fundraising, and an overview of Colorado's charitable solicitations law.
The adoption of the Colorado Charitable Solicitations Act in 2002 created an electronic charities registration program for charitable organizations and their fundraising professionals. Colorado is the only state in the nation that has a fully electronic registration system. Charitable organizations are required to register with the Colorado Secretary of State's Licensing Division every year.
At the press conferences on Wednesday, Secretary of State Gigi Dennis and Attorney General John Suthers will discuss tips consumers can use to make informed choices when they are giving to charitable organizations.
