Official Election Results and Voter Turnout Certified by Secretary of State Gigi Dennis
Denver, November 28, 2005 - Secretary of State Gigi Dennis has certified the 2005 Coordinated Election results and official voter turnout. The official results can be viewed at www.elections.colorado.gov under "Election News".
The statewide voter turnout for Colorado was a record 49.85%. This is the highest odd-year voter turnout ever. The second highest odd-year voter turnout was 47.25% in 2003. Pursuant to Colorado law, the numbers used to determine voter turnout are the total number of active voters for each county and the total number of ballots cast.
"I am pleased to see the voter turnout trend during odd-year elections is increasing," Secretary of State Gigi Dennis said. "This is a record for Colorado. I hope this is a signal that Coloradoans are getting more used to odd-year elections and taking the opportunity to make their voice heard."
November 25 was the last day for the Secretary of State to compile and total returns from all counties, but the Secretary of State's elections office was able to compile and certify the results two days early. No statewide recounts were ordered.
The detailed breakout of election results and voter turnout for each county may be obtained from the Secretary of State's website.
