Truden Recall Set to go Forward

Denver, October 14, 2005 - The Secretary of State's office has been notified that no notice of protest concerning the sufficiency of the recall petition signatures for Colleen Truden, Ninth Judicial District Attorney, will be filed. If no protest is received before the Friday deadline, then the recall will go forward.

Pursuant to C.R.S. 1-12-111, the Secretary of State shall submit the petition, together with certificate of its sufficiency, to the Governor. Governor Bill Owens will set the date for the recall election. In accordance with C.R.S. 1-12-111, the election must take place 45 to 75 days from the date of determination of sufficiency. Since the Secretary of State issued her determination of sufficiency on September 29, 2005, then the election must take place between November 14 and December 13.

Only registered electors in the Ninth Judicial District (Garfield, Pitkin, and Rio Blanco counties) will be eligible to vote on this recall.

The recall election will be held separate from the upcoming November 1, 2005 odd-year election.
