Electronic Filing Continues to Save Money and Time for Citizens

Denver, February 24, 2005 - The Secretary of State's office will soon be discontinuing the $0.99 limited-time, introductory processing fee charged for most Web-enabled transactions for business organization documents. However, the office will continue to charge significantly lower processing fees for customers who use the electronic filing capabilities of the Secretary of State's Website. Searching the business database, viewing and printing images and obtaining certificates of good standing will remain free of charge.

"We offered the special introductory price to our customers to demonstrate the benefits of filing online," Secretary of State Donetta Davidson said. "It is absolutely unheard of for citizens to be able to do business with government for under one dollar," Davidson added.

For more than seven months, the Secretary of State's office has promoted its new online business filing features to customers by offering an introductory processing fee of $0.99 for documents that are filed online. This "promotional" effort designed to introduce customers to the Web site has been remarkably successful. Most customers have now adopted the online filing option and it is time for processing fees to revert to "pre-special" rates. It will still be more efficient and less costly for customers to file online.

"Customers enjoy the flexibility to be able to file online and not have to wait for their paperwork to arrive at our office via mail or drive downtown to do their business with our office," Davidson said. "And the new electronic filing features have created much-needed new efficiencies for the office staff."
