Secretary of State Davidson Plans to Announce the Results of the Second Charitable Soliciations Annual Report
Denver, December 23, 2004 - Secretary of State Donetta Davidson will announce the results of Colorado’s second Annual Report on Charitable Solicitations spending at a press conference on Monday, December 27, 2004 at 11:30 a.m. in the Secretary of State’s Large Conference Room at 1560 Broadway, Suite 200, Denver. The report includes an overview of fundraising campaigns conducted by registered paid solicitors on behalf of charities.
"The Colorado Secretary of State’s office encourages Coloradoan’s to give to those who are less fortunate, but we urge you to use tools created by my office to help you give wisely," Davidson said. "The report developed by the Secretary of State’s office will better inform citizens who may be hesitant and unsure as to where their money is going and how much actually gets spent on the cause to which they donate."
The adoption of the Colorado Charitable Solicitations Act in 2002 created an electronic charities registration program for charitable organizations and their fundraising professionals. Colorado is the only state in the nation that has a fully electronic registration system. Charitable organizations are required to register with the Colorado Secretary of State’s Licensing Division every year. This year there is a record number of charitable organizations that have registered with the Secretary of State’s office.
At the press conference on Monday, the Secretary of State will discuss tips consumers can use to make informed choices when they are giving to charitable organizations during the upcoming year.
